In order for a bicycle to function properly there are many bike parts that must be incorporated into its design. While all the parts are important many have more emphasis placed on them depending on the intent of the bicycle. Some bicycles are intended for recreational use only; it is important for these bikes to have intense gearing and chain systems. These systems are what allow the bike to function properly on all different terrains. Additionally bicycles intended only for transportation need to have strong frames and wheel structure so they are durable and can be relied upon for everyday use. Regardless of the type of bicycle all bikes must have a frame, a chain, steering ability, seating, and breaks.
Frame: The bikes frame is the most prominent bike part on any model. Most bicycles have a frame with upright seating and diamond style framing. These type of bicycles have a front triangle and a rear triangle. The front triangle allows the steering to properly move the front wheel, it also holds the tubes and other pieces of equipment that are essential for the gearing, chains, and breaking system to work. The rear triangle holds the seat and the other part of the chain system that connects to the rear wheel.
Chain/Gear system: The chain is the essential bike part that allows the bike to function by transmitting power to both wheels. Without the chain riders would have to exert so much force into making the wheels of the bike turn, there would be no point. In addition different gears allow riders to adjust the resistance of their chain for their preference. Many different gears make it easier for riders to travel on different terrains.
Steering: Another one of the essential bike parts is the handlebars. Handlebars are connected to the front wheel and allow riders to steer the bike. There are many different types of handlebars, all of which allow the rider to steer. Mostly, different types are meant to provide handlebars that fit different preferences in style or comfort.
Seating: Another essential bike part is the seat. Many riders find it more convenient to have a place to sit while riding, if not all the time, some of the time. There are many types of seats and all can be chosen based off personal preferences. Comfort is essential to most people so there are many seats that are wider and more cushioned. However, there are also seats that are small and narrow for individuals who rarely use them.
Brakes: The bike part that is essential to the safety of every type of bike is the brakes. There are many, many different types of breaks, all whose function is to stop the bike. All modern bicycles are manufactured with some sort of breaking system in place so the rider is able to stop the bike at any given point in time.
